Jazz singer Stacey Kent in concert at Salisbury Playhouse

Internationally acclaimed, Grammy nominated jazz singer Stacey Kent will be in concert at Salisbury Playhouse with her five-piece band for one special evening May 16.

This beautiful collection of songs from the new album, I Know I Dream, includes American Standards, Bossa Nova classics, Chansons, as well as original songs and reprises of some of Stacey’s most loved repertoire - including numbers co-written by Nobel prizewinner Kazuo Ishiguro, whose songwriting partnership with Stacey has formed an essential plank of her repertoire.

With career sales approaching 2 million albums, Stacey’s eleventh studio album, I Know I Dream, is a highlight not only for its breathtaking beauty but also for its assured expressiveness.  The Album follows Tenderly (2015), an intimate collaboration with Brazilian music master, Robert Menescal. Stacey’s previous albums include, the Brazilian-flavoured, The Changing Lights, (2013), Dreamer In Concert (2011), recorded live in Paris at La Cigale, her all-French, Raconte-moi (2010), and the Platinum-selling, Grammy nominated, Breakfast on the Morning Tram (2007).

Jamie Cullum said: “Stacey Kent has been quietly sitting on top of the world of jazz vocals, for many years.”

Raised on the east coast of the US, Stacey travelled to Europe to further her studies. After receiving her degree from Sarah Lawrence College in NY, through a series of twists of fate, she found herself in London where she enrolled in a graduate music programme at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and where she met her future husband and musical partner, Jim Tomlinson.

Kent’s musical journey began in her childhood with piano lessons. An unusually keen ear and true voice lead her to participate in school musical productions, and she could often be heard singing at impromptu musical events in the college’s cafe. However, nothing suggested the shift in career that has propelled her to international recognition. With a catalogue of 11 studio albums including the Platinum-selling, GRAMMY-nominated Breakfast On The Morning Tram (EMI/BLUE NOTE 2007) and an impressive list of collaborations, Stacey has graced the stages of more than 50 countries over the course of her career.
