“I’m really excited about it” – Pop star Olly Murs will be headlining Kingsholm Stadium to kick start its summer season of concerts!

The runner up of the X-factor is one of the biggest pop artists in the UK, – hits include Troublemaker, Dance With me Tonight and Heart Skips a Beat – and he’s preparing to end his current tour with a bang at Gloucester’s Kingsholm Stadium, June 9.

Ahead of his Gloucester show Murs reveals what to expect from his last tour performance, and what he’s getting up to this summer!

Gloucester Kingsholm Stadium is the last date of your arena tour, is it somewhere that you’re looking forward to?

Yeah, of course. I can’t wait. It’s going to be amazing!

Any prior experience of Gloucestershire at all?

No, I think it’s the first time I’ve ever been down to that part of the country so I’m really excited to see the area and see what it’s like and the scenery! I’m really excited about it.

What can fans expect from the show?

Well it’s going to be a fun night, because it’s the only stadium I’m doing this summer. I’ve done quite a few last year, but because of my work commitments I can only fit this in. It’s a massive stadium and we’re just almost sold out, which is amazing. So, to do a live outside stadium gig for my tour is just going to be unbelievable. So I just can’t wait to get there and do the show.

With hit after hit, how do you go about choosing your set list

It’s a bit difficult. I’m happy to look at the set alone and just go through things to see roughly what we can do, we have the new album, I’ve obviously got all the old songs from the last six albums so it’s going to be great. That’s the great thing about touring and the great thing about doing this is that anyone who’s a fan of my music or maybe isn’t always buying my music but likes me; the show is for them. It’s a fun show. It’s going to be a great time for me. I’m excited, because it’s 10 years since the X-Factor, so I want to make this a special tour for my fans. I want to make it really special for them, so I can’t wait to get out there.

Are there a couple of songs from your repertoire that you enjoy and that get the best reactions from the crowds?

I mean, ‘Dance with Me Tonight’ is always a crowd pleaser. I think it’s just something that people instantly recognise with me. Of course Troublemaker as well, Heart Skips a Beat, Dear Darlin, Wrapped Up…

It’s really hard to pick one, because all the songs have been big parts of my career. So, when you perform live –Dance With Me Tonight is probably the one when I sing it live it just gets a huge reaction. It’s like ‘wow this is something you don’t experience all the time’. It’s great.

Rak-Su are supporting, do you know the guys well?

Yeah, I do actually. I got to know Ashley and Miles really well, who are in the group. They’ve got a really good future in music and they’re super talented as well and just nice people.

I would never want to go on tour with a group or any artist that aren’t nice or that my fans wouldn’t get on with. Rak-Su are great lads and I’m really thankful that they’re doing it and they’ll be brilliant for the show.

You’re voicing a character in 101 Dalmatians. How did that come around?

Disney contacted my management and were interested in having me in it, I’m just super excited. It’s a great show to be apart of and I love acting, I love doing voice overs and impressions. It’s something I always wanted to do and it was just great that Disney thought of me and have given me this opportunity and I hope it opens other opportunities up for me in the future.  I really, really enjoyed the experience.

So is this something that you’re going to pursue in between album campaigns?

Who knows. I mean, I don’t know. It’s the start of doing something I’ve never done before; if it’s the last time I do it, I can always say that I’ve voiced over an animated TV show. It’s something you can always go back to. If I get to do it again., obviously I would love to. We’ll see what happens.

Do you still enjoy working on The Voice? What keeps bringing you back to the show?

I love it! The Voice is fantastic. The reason, why I’m so passionate about it is, obviously with where I came from being from the X Factor, the opportunity to help and guide someone in this industry and help change their lives is just something I would love to give to someone else. This opportunity of doing The Voice; every time I’m there I just get so excited. It’s the best show to be apart of and I love being there, so I’m really, really enjoying it this season.

This season has been our best season. Everyone’s loving it. The reactions have been fantastic online and all the papers have been loving it, so we’re really excited.

So hopefully you’ll be back again next year?

I hope so, yeah. I’m really enjoying it and I think the Voice bosses and everyone seems to like me on it, so hopefully I’ll be back on it again next year.  But we haven’t even finished this year yet, so hopefully I’ll win this year.

How do you fine the time to fit so much in and is there anything left you want to do?

I’ve been very lucky. It’s been a great 9 months since I released the new album and all these things have been happening. At the moment I’m just excited to finish the tour and enjoy the summer. Enjoy some time away and see what happens. The Voice UK Tour is obviously coming up. There’s so many amazing things in the entertainment industry that I would love to do. Acting is always something that I’ve been interested in at some point.

Everything has been great, so I can’t complain.

Any musical styles that you would like to try next?

I think I’ve covered different styles. I did a song called ‘Up’ and that had a very country sort of vibe to it with the way that it was written, with the guitars, it just kind of felt like that.  But I always do different things all the time.

I mean, listen, I think me going and doing a rock album is not going to work. I think I’ve got my lane. I think that’s what people like about me and I’ll continue to do that lane in my music.

The Tour finishes in Gloucester at the beginning of June. What’s the plan for the rest of the summer?

I don’t know at the moment. I’ll spend some time at home, enjoy some time with my friends and family and enjoy the summer. I hope that it’s going to be a good one this year. We’ll see what happens. I’m really excited about the future, not knowing what’s going to be happening. I’m going to enjoy this album, finish the tour and then see what happens next.
