Wroughton real ale pub, Carters Rest, has re-opened following a major £140,000 investment.

Enlisting in the assistance of pub company Punch, the re-work has included full redecoration throughout, upgraded toilets, a new back bar fitting, and the introduction of a fireplace. Along with new signage and lighting, the beer garden has been given a makeover which has undoubtedly improved the pub’s kerb-appeal. Although much has changed at Carters Rest, there will be a familiar face behind the bar in the form of 23 year-old manager, Josh Lea. Josh is no stranger to the pub having started working there for his uncle at the age of just 18. Josh said: “Carters Rest is a proper traditional pub. I’ve had many happy years working here and getting to know all the locals and I’m really looking forward to making sure it stays at the heart of the community.” Despite the new look, Carters rest will continue to be a haven for cask ale fans with a range of 12 on offer. New craft beers are being introduced along with a wider choice of wines, and a new menu with traditional pub food and bar snacks is due to be launched in October. Customers can also expect plenty of entertainment with regular live music, quizzes and pub games such as darts, poker and cribbage. Publican Development and Training Manager for Punch, Jason Cousins, said: “Carters Rest is a warm and welcoming village pub and this investment has significantly improved the facilities without detracting from any of its character. “Josh has a real passion for ales and craft beers and I’m sure that customers will be delighted with the range and quality of drinks as well as the warm welcome on offer.”
