High-spirited escapade Around the World in 80 Days comes to Salisbury direct from the West End

A touring production of Around the World in 80 Days comes to Salisbury Playhouse from Monday October 2 to Saturday October 7.

Theresa Heskins’ celebrated production features a hugely talented cast of eight playing more than 125 characters. It is an imaginative, high-spirited adventure that includes six trains, five boats, four fights, three dances, two circus acts and even an elephant.

For the unfamiliar, the story unfolds around the mysterious and fabulously wealthy Phileas Fogg who wagers his life’s fortune on the challenge to circumnavigate the globe in just 80 days. Fogg and his loyal valet, Passepartout, voyage from the misty alleys of Victorian London to the exotic subcontinent and the Wild West in a race against the clock.

Andrew Pollard, who has appeared in Coronation Street and Emmerdale and wrote recent Salisbury Playhouse pantomimes Aladdin and Cinderella, reprises the role he played as Phileas Fogg in a 2014 production of the play, while Michael Hugo (Cyrano at Northern Broadsides) reprises his turn as Passepartout.

Despite the small-casted scale, Heskins’ troupe have gathered wide attention with the Guardian calling the production “terrific”, and The Times “highlights entertaining”.

The Independent has also called the production “a magnificently preposterous romp” and gave the show a five-star review.
