Harp and Tap performance and workshops at Salisbury Arts Centre

This is harp music as you’ve never heard it before!

On October 21 expect everything from Celtic music to jazz all played with rhythm and flair, mixed with some awe-inspiring dancing from one of the world’s best tap dancers to create an unforgettable, high-energy fusion.

Combine the breath-taking hoofing of tap-dance legend Lee Payne with the energy of Welsh harpist Harriet Earis, bass-player Wal Coughlan and drummer Sam Christie and you’re in for a night to remember.

Lee Payne was one of the two American-style tap dancers in the original Riverdance show and has danced on Top of the Pops and Sky 1’s Got to Dance. Before the evening Harp and Tap performance, Lee Payne will teach two dance workshops - beginner and intermediate/advanced level.

During her harp playing workshop suitable for all levels, beginner to advanced, Harriet Earis will teach you how to play dance tunes on the harp - jigs, reels and hornpipes. Learn how to arrange and ornament some foot-tapping tunes. Please bring your own harp.

Harriet’s aim is to show a new approach to harp-playing, using the Celtic harp as a strong melody instrument. Together with her love of Celtic music, Harriet has been studying Irish, Scots Gaelic and Welsh and has a Cambridge degree in Celtic Studies. She reached Grade 8 with Distinction in classical harp but then had a religious conversion to Celtic music and has never looked back since!

All tickets are available online at  www.salisburyartscentre.co.uk or from Salisbury Arts Centre box office on 01722 321744.
