Arts & Culture

It’s Fieldview Festival this weekend - the sun is (still) shining, the line-up is brilliant and The Ocelot are really excited to be covering it.

You know when people look at a festival line-up and with one glance of not really knowing any of the musicians it’s a no from them? I get it. I also don’t. If you’re failing to see anyone that’s taking your fancy at Fieldview Festival I would first ask you to consider broadening your music taste and secondly, fear not - I’ve accumulated a few must-sees.

Harvey Causon

This guy’s an incredible find. I saw him play live at Maida Vale and to be completely honest he blew me away - unbelievable acoustics that flirt with both an electronica tone and something more classical. He’s a very pensive and visceral listen.

Grace Savage

This is where I find out that she’s performing on Friday when I’m not there… To be honest I don’t have too much to say about Savage because I’ve only just recently stumbled across her, but a few listens in and I find her really exciting. I think she’s going to bring a lot of vitality to the stage - I don’t think I’ve ever had the “she’s a tantalising beat boxer” thought before. I’m game.

The Compact Pussycat

After a review of Swindon Shuffle on the Darkroom Podcast the most agreed thing was that the three of us were annoyed we missed these guys. Again, never seen them live but after a few listens here or there they have a really subtle, yet effective, fusion of soft indie undertones with garage intersections.

The Blinders

Alternative indie dreams in rock outfits. Musically their dynamics are really interesting and with that it makes them an exciting watch because they’ve nailed their composition but at the same time when you’re listening to them they feel unpredictable. I’m incredibly curious to see how they translate on stage.

The weekend

Fieldview’s always been on my to-do list, so I’m stoked to finally be going. After the Reading and Glastonbury ventures I’m all about the smaller festivals, but it’s evident that Fieldview in particular has a massive personality and a lot to give.

As a non-profit event Fieldview is run entirely by volunteers and I’m already sucked in by the chilled community vibes - since 2009 the festival has been supporting charitable causes and creating a connection through music and various other inclusive activities. This year said activities include poetry, rockeoke, tai chi, yoga and cultural workshops. On a side note I don’t know what on earth ‘Rise and Vibe’ is, but I’m sure as hell going to find out.

Set up in Little Somerford there are still tickets available for Fieldview - in my humble opinion, if you’ve got nothing going on this weekend now’s the time to get impulsive.
