Fuelled by Indian-inspired ingredients and punchy flavours: Rola Wala comes to Oxford

On Friday November 24, Westgate Oxford welcomes the latest innovation in the healthy fast food scene – Rola Wala, meaning “man that rolls” in Hindi.

For the first week of launch, founder Mark and his team are inviting Oxford to leave behind misconceptions of ‘unhealthy’ Indian-style cuisine and fast food, and try out Rola Wala’s light, yet hearty, rolls and bowls. With a buy one get one free offer for you and a friend until December 1, Rola Wala is the spot for lunch that ticks all the boxes – great taste, low price, healthy and quick! As with every meal Rola Wala served at it’s London and Leeds sites, each meal bought in Oxford will help feed a hungry child living in poverty with One Feeds Two. Mark Wright, Rola Wala’s founder, pledged to work with the charity partner back in 2015 when they were a start up business with just one site, and have provided over 350,000 meals to date! The new Oxford kiosk will be serving up Rola Wala’s delicious dishes, where the journey begins with a choice of three bases: the hero Sourdough Naan Roll, inspired by the kati rolls of kolcatta, red rice bowl, plus low-carb option cauli-rice bowl. For protein fillings, meat lovers can enjoy flavour powerhouses, Rola’s chicken tikka, nagaland lamb, and bengali spiced beef, a slow-cooked beef brisket in a spice mix made up of fennel, fenugreek, nigella, cumin and mustard seed. Vegetarians and vegans are not stuck for choice with half the menu consisting of nutrient-packed plants packing a punch. Rola Wala’s first ever dish, red channa dal, sits alongside the delicious coconut and tamarind delight, keralan chickpea, and sweet potato Saagwala which has the option for extra paneer cheese. From clean meat gains to guilt-free grains, Rola Wala has a nutritional dish to suit each diet and lunch craving. To cut through the spice, you can wash it all down with an all natural mango and turmeric soda or lager from Camden Town Brewery. The 55sqm kiosk created from reclaimed materials is inspired by a merge of London street vibes and the roadside stalls found in India. Situated in the shopping centre’s new food and leisure area, Westgate Social, Rola Wala is a new take on Indian food, making is quick, healthy and light. Mark, said: “We are really excited to introduce India’s colourful and inspiring flavors in our own ‘twisted’ way to Oxford, and to join Westgate’s exciting re-launch. From a humble street food truck just 4 years ago to now having three permanent sites in London, Leeds and Oxford, we’re thrilled to bring the Rola Wala experience to a new city.” Rola Wala’s Oxford opening follows a 2017 site launch in Spitalfields London this July and pop-ups at various festivals throughout summer.
