This special exhibition celebrates Waldron’s career through four series of artworks, each inspired by the rhythm, colour and energy of natural forms.
His vibrant abstract paintings draw on motifs from his surroundings in Crete, where he lives and works for half the year. Cacti, caves and flowers are the key to these large expressive canvases, characterised by layered markings and expressive brush strokes.
In Waldron’s words the paintings are: “a response to working and living on Crete – to the light, colour, warmth, drama and the sheer magic of the Cretan landscape, language and its people”.
Waldron completed his initial training at Swindon College, before moving on to the Chelsea School of Art where he met important artists including John Hoyland, Howard Hodgkin and Richard Hamilton, who feature in Swindon’s permanent collection. Waldron has since accomplished a successful career, having exhibited extensively throughout Britain and Crete.
Swindon Museum and Art Gallery is thrilled to be hosting this exhibition, which aims to celebrate a Swindon-born artist who has found international success with his exciting, bold paintings.
