Corn Exchange presents: My Perspective - a free photography exhibition

Photography fans still have one last week to see Newbury’s Corn Exchange photography exhibition, until April 28.

The Corn Exchange are presenting an exhibition of one of its Ageing Creatively participation projects in Newbury’s Kennet Centre.

My Perspective is a project that brings together adults aged 55 and over from across West Berkshire, to engage them in a new art form. The participants of this photography project were challenged to take 28 photographs within 28 days to document their diverse daily lives. The exhibition of these images aims to raise the profile of this generation’s creativity and celebrates the joy of the everyday.

Throughout the project, the group, who were guided in their work by local artist Simon Jardine, came together in weekly coffee mornings to share thoughts on each other’s work, to give feedback and enjoy each other’s company.

Amy Pattison, Corn Exchange, said: “The group have really enjoyed coming together weekly to explore photography and we’re so excited to give the public a chance to see and celebrate their work.”

The Corn Exchange have been working with Sovereign Housing Association to ensure their projects access more community members than ever, and many of the participants for this project live in local Sovereign over 55’s schemes.

Tracey Scutter, Independent Living and Community Officer, Sovereign, said: “We’ve been doing a lot of work with residents in our supported housing schemes, creating opportunities for them to get involved with activities in their communities. While this has been an enjoyable project for residents to get involved in, it’s also been an opportunity for them to learn new skills and to help reduce isolation. It’s been great working in partnership with the Corn Exchange to promote this photography workshop and the public exhibition is an exciting way to showcase their newfound skills.”

The final exhibition of the participants work will be shown in the former Thomas Cook retail unit, opposite Boswells in the Kennet Centre in Newbury, RG14 5EN.

The exhibition, which is free to attend, will be open from 10am TO 12:30pm on weekdays until Friday April 27.
