Cirencester's Barn Theatre acknowledged by National Theatre Awards

The theatre received two awards at the 2022 Off West End Awards and received a shortlist nomination for the upcoming 2021 BroadwayWorld Uk Awards. 

The Barn Theatre in Cirencester was the recipient of two awards at the 2022 Off West End Awards ceremony on 20 February for two of their digital productions.

Since opening in 2018, the Cirencester-based theatre has gained national recognition having produced over 20 Built by Barn shows and being awarded The Stage Awards’ Best Fringe Theatre of the Year Award 2019. 

Since the first national lockdown the Barn Theatre has become world-renowned for digital theatrical innovation, with content seen by over 330,000 audience members, and received two New York Times Critic Picks for digital productions directed by Tamara Harvey: What a Carve Up! (with Lawrence Batley Theatre & New Wolsey Theatre) and The Picture of Dorian Gray (with Lawrence Batley Theatre, New Wolsey Theatre, Oxford Playhouse & Theatr Clwyd). 

What a Carve Up! won the inaugural OnComm Innovative Work Award at the 2021 Off West End Awards, as well as being named as one of the best productions of 2020 by both The Telegraph and The Guardian.

At the 2022 Off West End Awards the theatre won the OnComm Award for “Recorded Shows (Edited – Significant Edits)” for The Picture of Dorian Gray (with Lawrence Batley Theatre, New Wolsey Theatre, Oxford Playhouse & Theatr Clwyd) and the OnComm Award for “Theatre For Young People / Families / Those With Special Needs” for Private Peaceful (with BoxLess Theatre).

The theatre also recently received a 2021 BroadwayWorld UK Awards “Best New Production Created for Streaming” nomination for What a Carve Up! (produced with Lawrence Batley Theatre & New Wolsey Theatre).

The theatre’s current production, Murder For Two, finishes its acclaimed run at the venue on 5 March, with Vicki Berwick’s stage adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s The Mozart Question making its world premiere from 21 March.
