Ray Hughes and Sian Chandler (aka The Black Feathers), from Cirencester, have been playing their own brand of folk and Americana on a 33-date tour across 18 states of America, charming audiences and selling out famous venues all the way from The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville to Rockwood Music Hall in New York City.
The pair, whose recent UK shows have included opening for Steve Winwood at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, say they wanted to make the last date of their tour in their hometown, at the Bingham Hall in Cirencester, on December 7.
“We’ve had an amazing time in the US; but there’s nothing quite like a hometown show,”explains Ray Hughes. “The Bingham Hall is a really beautiful venue and we always love playing on that stage.”
The Gloucestershire duo are taking the USA by storm and have appeared on radio and TV stations throughout the Northeast. The video for their latest single ‘The Ghosts Have Eaten Well’ reached number 18 on the CMC Country Music Channel’s playlist, and was broadcast to 2.4 million households throughout northern California.
“It has been absolutely mind-blowing how well our music has been received out here and we are so grateful to everyone for their support on both sides of the pond,” adds Sian Chandler. “We’re looking forward to sharing some stories from our adventures with our fans back home. I’m also looking forward to a nice cup of tea!”
For those that are not yet familiar with The Black Feathers, the perfectly paired timbres of their voices create a tone that reaches deep down into the listener and stirs up powerful - and sometimes surprising - emotions. A broad and deep range of musical traditions, fromrock and folk to roots and Americana, can be heard within their songs, resulting in a unique sound, with Hughes’ fine guitar work buoying the kind of harmonies often only heard in family bands.
