Reading’s premier independent music festival Are You Listening? Festival have added more than 25 new acts to their bumper bill for Saturday April 27 2019.

Leading the announcement are the exciting Irish triowhenyoung. The anthemic pop band have already caused a huge amount of excitement with their recent string of razorsharp indie pop singles, and they release their highly anticipated debut album on Virginthis spring. The three-piece have already toured with AYL? Favourites Dream Wifeand were handpicked to play Shane Mcgowan’s sixtieth birthday celebrations alongside Nick Cave and Sinead O’Connor. Their set is not to be missed.

The unthinkably talented Manchester musician Kiran Leonard joins this year’s line-up. Kiran exploded onto the music scene aged just 17, and since then has had classical compositions performed at Manchester Central Library, been handpicked to playGuy Garvey’s Meltdown and BBC 6 Music Festivals, and toured with Du Blondeand Soccer Mommy. Now 22, Leonard has recently released his acclaimed third studio album on legendary indie label Moshi Moshi and we can’t wait to see him in the flesh.


Fast rising alternative four-piece Another Skyhave been added to the bill too. Signed to Fiction Records(The Amazons, The Big Moon), the band pair brooding Radiohead-esque atmospherics, political bite and unique, haunting vocals to thrilling effect. The Londoners recently blew audiences away on Later… with Jools Holland; played a ‘were you there?’ show at The Purple Turtle last month, and are set to represent the UK at SXSW.They are definitely ones to watch.

Chester’s DIY indie pop-ers Peaness have been added to the line-up as well. Signed to indie label royalty Alcopop!, the fun-fuelled trio have supported AYL? alumni The Big Moon and The Lovely Eggs, as well as The Cribs, Yak and Goat Girl on recent dates. The low-fi poppers also put in impressive performances at a host of festivals last year including 2000 Trees, Truck and Reading’s own Beat Connection all-dayer.

Among the other acts announced are local mannequin-wielding electro-rockers The Pink Diamond Revue; Kate Bushapproveddance-popduo Candy Says; Pete Hefferan, formerly of underground indie icons Pete & The Pirates; Lily Allen and DJ Semtex-approved rapper Nonamedisciple; powerful pop singer-songwriter Lion; visceral garage-punk outfit Avalanche Party; and a load more acts.

They join the already hefty line-up that includes leftfield indie rising stars Genghar; legendary turntablist Krafty Kuts; raucous pop party starters Bad Sounds; international psych behemoths Flamingods; alternative folk songstress Rozi Plain; juddering synth-rock powerhouse TVAM; stirring indie trio Our Girl; beatboxing superstar SK Shlomo; eight-limbed noise machine BIG LAD; multi-award winning Aldworth Philharmonic Orchestra; young indie-folk exciter Willie J Healey; DIY noise-punks Workin’ Man Noise Unit, along with many more exciting acts. The festival also boasts DJ sets from new music guru John Kennedy (Radio X) and BBC Radio 1 party starter Phil Taggart, who curates the Sub 89 stage under his SLACKER club night banner.

Of the announcement festival organiser, Dave Maul, said: “We’re really pleased to announce the final slew of acts to play the seventh Are You Listening? Festival. We’re really happy with the diversity of the line-up this year, as well as the sheer quality on the bill, with buzzy rappers, oddball experimentalists and classical orchestras all sharing stages for us.
