Calling all young actors, writers and technicians!

Young actors, writers and technicians are invited to join Swindon’s only professional theatre company for a new year of activity.

Weekly workshops for ages 5 to 25 are open to children and young creatives to work with experienced and industry respected theatre practitioners.

Termly memberships start at £60.00, however a grant scheme is available to include everyone regardless of money.

Unlike many youth theatres, no audition is necessary so entry is guaranteed no matter what level of experience or confidence new members bring.

As well as new members, Prime is also welcoming a new Associate Director, Emma Barr, who is leading the company’s youth and schools work into new creative territory.

Emma is a Canadian drama leader and director who trained most recently at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She has worked for a variety of youth organisations in London as a teacher and director after originally working as a professional actor in Toronto.

She said: “I’ve really enjoyed my first weeks here in Swindon. I’ve already been in several primary and secondary schools and am very excited to get to know the town and its talented young people.”

Prime is the town’s only theatre company supported by the Arts Council and Swindon Borough Council. Its regular workshops and projects at the Wyvern Theatre explore all sides of performance; from directing to devising; puppetry to circus; and improvisation to productions

Carli Green, Prime’s Young Artist, commented: “I love being involved with Prime because it offers a sense of family. Everyone is supportive and creative and willing to have fun. The workshop leaders are professional and friendly – I wouldn’t be as confident or driven a person as I am without their support.”

Rachel Townsend, 14, a current Prime Youth Theatre member added: “Prime Youth Theatre is a great place where I can act, be myself, make friends and have fun!”

The new Term of Prime Youth Theatre starts on 2 October with opportunities to join workshops Monday-Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
