Autumn 2017 at The North Wall

Oxford’s North Wall are proud to present a vibrant and diverse programme for Autumn 2017, bringing together contemporary & fringe performances, music and art from across the UK and Europe.

Theatre & Opera Highlights

  • The North Wall is committed to staging the best of new writing, and this autumn the venue will be partnering with HighTide Festival to produce dazzlingly funny drama ‘Kanye the First’ by up-and-coming writer Sam Steiner.
  • Olivier award-winning OperaUpClose return to The North Wall for the seventh time, this time with their take on Poulenc’s heart-breaking, powerful ‘La Voix Humaine’.
  • Direct from its premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, ‘Education, Education, Education’ is the Wardrobe Ensemble’s funny, irreverent look back on their halcyon 1990s school days.
  • Improbable associate artist Angela Clerkin new show ‘The Secret Keeper’ is a witty and playful adult fairy tale with a murderous gothic heart…perfect entertainment as the nights draw in!

Music & Dance Highlights

  • Teeside trio The Young’uns tour to Oxford with an eagerly anticipated new album, ’Strangers’, which is a collection of folk songs for our times – a homage to the outsider, a eulogy for the wayfarer and a hymn for the migrant.
  • Rising stars of the Scottish folk scene ‘Fara’ journey from their native Orkney to perform a night of vibrant and inventive arrangements for energetic fiddle and driving piano and four-part harmony.
  • Following their sell-out success in 2015, Dotdotdot dance are back with their unique brand of stripped back flamenco in ‘No Frills’.

Exhibition Highlights

The ‘Society of Wood Engravers’ returns to The North Wall for the third year running this November with an entirely new selection of relief prints in its 80th Annual Exhibition. Over one hundred wood engravings, woodcuts and linocuts from the UK and around the world reveal the wide range of effects and interpretations this art form is capable of.
