Art of Joyce Murgatroyd to be on display

To celebrate the life of well known artist, Joyce Murgatroyd, who sadly passed away this year age 100, a selection of her paintings, prints, and medals shall be on display at the Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.

Joyce was known as Honorary President of the Swindon Artists Society, a prominent member of the Swindon Society,  and member of Rodbourne Cheney Residents Association, which cemented her as a woman who made her mark on Swindon.

Local Historian Bob Townsend, long-time friend of Joyce’s son David, and member of the Swindon Society said “Joyce began a long association with the Swindon Society and delivered many talks with great enthusiasm and entertainment. It is wonderful to hear that some of her work has been given to Swindon Museum and Art Gallery in her memory and that she will be forever remembered in Swindon”.

The paintings shall be on display from today until Saturday 16 July. A number of her poems and certificates have also been donated to the Local Studies Collection, based at Swindon Central Library.
