A double bill of anime will be taking place at Salisbury Arts Centre Saturday January 13.

Body swapping, cosmic connections and young love combine to spellbinding effect in Your Name - the exquisite hand drawn animation which cements director Makoto Shinkai as the natural successor to Japanese master Hayao Myazaki.

Mitsuha and Taki are total strangers living completely different lives. But when Mitsuha makes a wish to leave her mountain town for the bustling city of Tokyo, they become connected in a bizarre way. She dreams she is a boy living in Tokyo while Taki dreams he is a girl from a rural town he has never visited. What does their newfound connection mean? And how will it bring them together?

The second film in the Anime Double Bill is the eagerly anticipated anime adaptation of the global-award winning manga series of the same name, A Silent Voice.  It comes to UK cinemas following critical acclaim in Japan.

Shoya Ishida, a rebellious boy, is surprised when a new girl, Shoko Nishimiya, joins his class. Shoko is deaf, and for reasons even Shoya doesn’t understand, he bullies the new girl mercilessly.

At first amusing his classmates, the rest of the school soon turns against Shoya, leaving him feeling lonely. He ultimately blames Shoko for his social exclusion.

The two grow older, and never speak. Until one day, when Shoya is much older – and wiser – he sees Shoko, and becomes overwhelmed with a desire to rectify his past mistakes. But is Shoko interested in her former bully’s attempt at redemption, or is it already too late?

Anime Double Bill screens at Salisbury Arts Centre on Saturday 13 January - Your Name at 11 am and A Silent Voice at 2 pm.

Tickets are £8 for each film, or you can enjoy both films for £14.
