Ex-Devizes, now-of-Trowbridge based promoters SHEER MUSIC are delighted to be bringing their first full-electric band show to Trowbridge’s esteemed Village Pump venue, when Liverpool based noise-monster ALPHA MALE TEA PARTY perform on Wednesday 16th August.
A mid-week show, I hear you collectively cry! In back-water Wiltshire!? Well yes, I haven’t quite lost my marbles, but when you’re offered the chance to support a cutting edge band from far away, then I feel duty bound to put Wiltshire on the map, and give us a good reputation amongst the wider scene.
Signed to Big Scary Monsters, Alpha Male… play avant garde noise rock. Often without a singer, the bands tones, rhythms and pounding drums put them akin with other, much respected bands like You Slut!, That Fucking Tank, RUNwalk, Part Chimp, And So I Watch You From Afar and more besides.

And all that will make sense to you if you’re a fan of ArcTanGent festival. The sister festival to Cheltenham’s 2000 Trees, ATG is based just outside Bristol and annually caters for the most daring, cutting edge and interesting bands on the UKs circuit.
What a show to return with then, and hosting it in the county town of Wiltshire. Trowbridge is a much derided scene in our musical conscious, having lagged behind Swindon, Salisbury and Devizes for the past decade. However there are changes afoot. With loads of opportunities, new promoters and a new sense of purpose, trust us when we say this is the beginning of something exciting!
Providing support for the evening is one of Wiltshire’s own noise-math bands, HOGGS BISON. Also largely instrumental, the Chippenham-come-Bath based band share similarities to Wiltshire’s finest noise-rock outfit, Thought-Forms, whom they undoubtedly owe a huge debt. Hoggs Bison are also performing at ATG, which means we can be proud that our young artists are mixing it up with the larger national acts in their own back yard.
