A satire, unmissable and marvellous story from WW1

The absolute classic and sell-out production of The Wipers Times returns to Salisbury’s Playhouse in October.

Fresh from the West End, Ian Hislop and Nick Newman’s The Wipers Times will be running from October 23 to October 28.

From the trenches during the Battle of the Somme, comes a satirical and heart-lifting tale of a newspaper that lifted the spirits of British soldiers.

When two soldiers come across a printing press, they become inspired to write a satirical and sombre journal depicting the camaraderie and resilience hid amidst the gas explosions and bombed buildings.

In no way in my wildest dream could I imagine men laughing during the First World War, but The Wiper’s Times became an uplifting and charming tribute to the men in the trenches and on the front line demonstrating their resilience in spite of the enemy.

Ian Hislop and Nick Newman said: “A hundred years after World War I, audiences nationwide will have a chance to see this forgotten true story about a satirical trench newspaper and discover that the black humour of The Wipers Times is still remarkably fresh, funny and poignant.”
