A lesson in feminism for your dad

New workshops designed to help dads tackle sexism and empower their Kids are hitting the frontline next month.

After a great success at Tandem and Wood Festivals this summer, Feminism for Dads is back with two inspiring half-day workshops in Oxford October 7 and October 21.

Threads Equality Agency will run the workshops as part of a project to build a thriving network of dads who can drive change at home, at work and in their communities to create a more balanced and equal world for their kids.

The workshops will explore how feminism can be useful for dads to navigate the many trials of parenting, rather than as a set of rules that tells men they are wrong.

The goal is to invite men into the conversation about gender equality.

Threads’ founder, Monique Ewen, explains: “There is a new generation of dads who want to be more involved in their kids’ lives.

“They want to be supportive partners and set an example for what it means to be caring and nurturing as a man. But there is no blueprint for that. So these workshops are really about empowering men to be the kind of fathers they want to be.”

Dads are signing up to empower their daughters and partners, create fair workplaces, and set a good example for their kids. They want to know how to identify and challenge negative stereotypes and sexism in themselves, their friends, their kids, and their colleagues.

Threads Equality Agency is an Oxford-based consultancy started in January 2017 and sponsored by the University of Oxford’s Graduate Entrepreneurship Scheme.

Founder, Monique Ewen - an expert in feminist theory and practice - will facilitate the workshops.
