The region’s top three football clubs are looking to take their game to another level with promotion a possibility for Reading, Swindon Town and Oxford United.
As the business end of the season approaches Terry McDermott’s Royals are in contention for an automatic promotion spot in the Championship after a run of seven consecutive wins left them putting pressure on the top two. The Royals face rivals Southampton this month in what could be a key fixture for both clubs.
In League Two, Swindon Town are looking to win the division after a run of 12 wins in 13 put the Robins in top spot. Paolo di Canio’s men are the form team and have further strengthened their ranks with the loan signing of Lee Holmes from rivals Oxford United.
The U’s 2-0 defeat of Swindon last month, thanks largely to Holmes’ contributions – he set up both goals, leaves Chris Wilder’s side chasing a play-off place.
United face promotion rivals Torquay United, Gillingham and Southend United in April and May.
