Local music and comedy group Stage Struck are getting ready for their show at the Arts Centre this week.
This year’s show is a variety show full of comedy and songs from shows such as Billy Elliott, Carousel, Bonne & Clyde, Cabaret, Motown, Oklahoma, Me & My Girl and many many more.
Stage Struck have always sought to do good old fashioned variety shows in a style not often seen these days and are still hugely popular.
This year, however, the company are faced a couple of problems.
The family group have been going for a long time with next year being their 30th anniversary show. For the last few years they have had an amazing group of young people but next year most of them will be doing GCSEs or going away to college or university. As a result they need new members.
So why not come and see their show next week, and then join the group and next year it could be you up on the stage.
Stage Struck meet every Wednesday and some Friday from 7.30pm to 10pm at Drove Road primary school throughout the year and members ages range from 9 years old to early 70s.
‘It’s as much of a social club as a music group’ said Geoff Marsh. ‘many of our members are people who just want to meet new people and have a good laugh. And when we get to the dancing rehearsals it’s a pretty good workout too’
The other problem the group currently faces has to do with their costumes. They pride themselves on their good reputation for amazing costumes. This has been down to a dedicated few people who over the previous years have worked extremely hard for them. One of their team members have decided to take a well-earned rest so they are looking for volunteers who can sew and would be interested in helping make some of the fantastic costumes for our next shows.
If you’d like to get an idea if working with this group would be for you then why not go along to see their next show Stage Struck 2012 at the Arts Centre from Tuesday 29 May till Saturday 2 June.
Tickets are £11.00 with concession £9.00 and can be obtained by calling the Stage Struck hotline on 01793 840757.
