In his quest for good music, The Blender Ben Honisett stumbles upon the goodness that is Rumour Shed...
Swindon based folk duo ‘Rumour Shed’ have produced a very good digital four track EP available from http://rumourshed.bandcamp.com.
The opening track ‘The River’ contains a well produced sound with easy listening melodies and enticing chord sequences. Throughout the EP I loved the female voice and at times, I believe this CD would have benefitted from dropping the male vocals altogether to allow the stronger more unique female vocals to really take control. This would have worked especially well on The River. But that is a minor complaint as overall this is a great listen. I just can’t get over how good the female vocalist is with her soft, husky voice drifting through tracks like smoke.
There are elements of Turin Brakes in the quality song writing and the hollow sultry female vocals really do suit this style of music. A good listen. If you like your modern folk music then ’Rumour Shed’ will be right up your street.
Blender rating:
Take some sultry female vocals, pour over pleasant chord changes and uncomplicated song writing, stir in a little Turin Brakes and some Lindisfarne powder if you have some. Dilute with some real ale or cider and leave out in the sunshine to bubble away nicely.
