Following Greek and In the Penal Colony, Music Theatre Wales presents a double-bill exploring the capacity of the mind to shape our lives. Direct from their world premieres at the 2012 Edinburgh International Festival, new operas by Huw Watkins and Stuart MacRae will play at Oxford Playhouse on Sunday 30 September at 7.30pm.

A closed door sparks an obsession so strong that the boundaries between reality and fantasy begin to blur in Huw WatkinsIn the Locked Room. With words by crime novelist Louise Welsh, Stuart MacRae’s Ghost Patrol sees three people, who have been trying to escape their past, collide, uncovering a terrible secret and unleashing inevitable tragedy.

Music Theatre Wales is renowned for presenting cutting edge opera with outstanding performers and its trademark theatrical flair. Composers Huw Watkins and Stuart MacRae are rapidly establishing themselves amongst the UK’s leading composers. Both team up with former collaborators - Watkins with crime writer, poet and librettist David Harsent (The Minotaur for Harrison Birtwistle), and MacRae with acclaimed crime novelist Louise Welsh (The Cutting Room) with whom he created Remembrance Day for Scottish Opera’s Five:15 Operas Made in Scotland series.

In the Locked Room and Ghost Patrol are an ideal introduction to opera, with two short operas in one evening and tickets starting from just £10.

Tickets for In the Locked Room and Ghost Patrol at Oxford Playhouse are available from the Ticket Office on 01865 305305 or book online at http://www.oxfordplayhouse.com
