Metal burlesque is now officially ‘A Thing’. No longer merely a hypothetical concept created by random selection, the collision of widely differing genres (glam-folk? Easy listening death metal? Acid J-Pop?) but a living, breathing Thing.
That’s right: on Saturday October 27 The Furnace in Swindon is holding a Metal Burlesque night with three bands, six – (yes six!) – burlesque performers, and following this with a Rage club night till 3am.
The event is a Halloween special, and consequently a fancy dress best-dressed competition will be in full swing, so you are highly encouraged to come in a sartorial state of full goth-horror finery (with the prizes ranging from free gig tickets to forthcoming events at The Furnace, to a yummy Sunday lunch at the Rolleston pub in Swindon).
The three bands on the bill are all hard-rocking metal bands, and have all been formed over the past few years.
Swindonian band ‘Harmony Disorder’, comprising of members from other recently deceased bands, was formed in 2012 and will impress with their energy and intensity; whilst 5-piece Welsh band ‘Hotel Ambush’ have a slightly more melodic/hardcore vibe and have a mean (if somewhat unusual) cover of ‘You Spin Me Round’ on their Myspace page.
The bands are headlined by another Swindon metal band ‘In The Absence Of Light’ who have been gigging widely and extensively since 2007.
If this wasn’t enough, Sophia Disgrace (pictured right), Lilly Laudanum, Raven Noir, Missy Lectric, Bella Rouge, and Pixie Noir will all be performing their own unique take on burlesque.
All these performers are very interesting in their own right (check them out online if you don’t believe me), though as a cheeky preview I can confirm that one of them has just been booked as an ‘Official Zombie for Alice Cooper’, which personally speaking, is something I would love to have on my CV.
Doors open at 7.30pm with a £7 entry.
