We’ve been banging on about Reading Festival for months now. Salivating over its amazing line-up generally getting on everybody’s wick by constantly going on about it. Well, it’s finally here. And with headliners like The Cure, Foo Fighters and Kasabian as well as a host of others you can see why we’ve got ourselves all in a lather. Barney Goodall reports...

End your summer with a bout of sonic dipsomania this year at Reading festival from the 24th to the 26th of August. This looks to be the only festival in the UK that might possibly not get cancelled, which considering the state of things is an achievement simply by thinking it possible.

Even so, rather than speculating, lets have a quick trawl through what is going on there.

Reading festival is equipped with seven multifarious stages and hundreds of different acts, ranging from the overt coolness of Eagles of Death Metal to the emotional punk power of Paramore.  The weekend will see the grasslands outside Reading transform into the most electrified entity in the UK. Well, perhaps I exaggerate slightly... There are only headliners such as The Cure, and Florence and the Machine, Kasabian and Foo Fighters, so be sceptical if you like because it's only going to be amazing! Actually, I would do nasty nasty things to be able to see The Cure... (No! Not what you're thinking...)

Anyways, other dark haired, boney, skinny charms can be found in The Mystery Jets, mainstaging the Saturday and The Horrors, radio1-staging the sunday are also to be had, with their cheekbones and post-punk voluptuousness. Yum...

The band to look out for in my opinion is 2:54 simply because their sound is really cool, a fantastic journey that probably came from riot grrrl, stubbed its toe in psychedelia, had coffee with Portishead and PJ Harvey before waking up at six minutes to three and declaring musical autonomy.

There’s also a whole host of comedy and other things going on if that’s your bag.

So, I've missed lots out, but that's half the fun at a festival such as reading. Get lost and find a new love!
