Oxford Playhouse Artists in Residence The Opera Group presents Babur in London, a specially-commissioned new opera, on Sunday 24 June at 7.30pm.
Set in a London suburb, Babur in London is a portrait of four young people grappling with their beliefs. As they prepare a terrorist attack, they are disturbed by the ghost of Babur, the first Mughal Emperor, a poet and warrior, who forces them to challenge their convictions.
The piece combines the contemporary poetry of Jeet Thayil with original music by Edward Rushton and is directed by John Fulljames, the Associate Director of Opera at the Royal Opera House.
The Opera Group has an enviable reputation for producing new music theatre and creating thought-provoking new work. With an acclaimed track record in commissioning new work that engages with contemporary issues, Babur in London explores timely themes of faith, ideology and cultural identity.
