The Three Crowns in Chippenham knows its real ale.

That is why everybody always gets so excited when the pub holds one of its beer festivals.

If you are a real ale enthusiast then there’s nowhere else you should be on the August Bank Holiday other than the Three Crowns as they hold a beer festival from Friday August 24 to Monday August 27. The pub will be opening from midday til late on each day and will boast more than 20 real ales and 10 ciders and perries.

The full list wasn’t available by the time we went to press but it should be up on its website by now.

The pub’s famous bar snacks will also be available including its filled rolls, hot pies, Walter Rose pork pies & Amy's home made exotic scotch eggs.

The Three Crowns, on Causeway, is an independent free house, which has a high turnover of real ale on site throughout the year and even hold special beer evenings

Originally built in the 1700's the Three Crowns has been a pub since the early 18th Century, with a Victorian extension added pre-1850.  There is a main bar with a real fire plus a cider/snug bar. They have a darts team in the local league, and a fortnightly quiz night, a film club and poetry nights. The monthly comedy club nights coupled with their live music and spontaneous singing nights enhance the community pub ethos.

The pub supports local micro-breweries and there is always a range of six ales available from light summery to dark luscious. It also intends always to have two dark ales available. In addition there are three farmhouse ciders & perry available in the cider bar. The ales & ciders are sold in over-sized marked glasses, ensuring, un-like other pubs, the customer who pays for a pint is served a pint.

Ales, ciders and perry are sensibly priced with an additional 30p per pint discount for members of CAMRA. Throughout the year the pub holds four real ale and cider festivals.
