Reel Big Fish strikes me as a great name because it puns. And everybody loves a good pun. Ha. Anyway, apart from possessing a great name, Reel Big Fish are also a Californian Ska punk band that have been splashing around (ha) since the early 90s with a series of mainstream (haha) hits towards the end of the decade such as ‘Sell Out’.
Wikipedia informs me that frontman Aaron Barratt ‘gained notoriety’ by appearing drunk onstage in 2004, and ‘flying into a frenzy mid-song. Interestingly Mr Barratt has also been nominated as the ‘’Sexiest man in Ska in 2009’’ (which I hope to Christ is an annual ceremony).
In other words ladies and gentlemen, you are in for a treat; albeit a treat of orgiastic sexualised on-stage violence. Luckily they are coming to these shores and playing the Oxford O2 on August 18.
