A Musical introduction for a season of shows for families in Oxford

Pegasus in East Oxford is a regular hub for shows and activities for under 12s and their families. Every month a brand new show explores a different genre with pre-show activities and participation in the show itself. Music, dance and storytelling feature in the autumn series with Macamu and the Magic Music Band (15th & 16th September), Ready or Not... with Commotion Dance (7th October) and the 25th anniversary production of Winnie The Witch from the Pegasus based O Biscuits Collective (8th to 11th November).

Macamu, a cheeky puppet character travels with the Magic Music Band, an Oxford based company who specialise in music for under 10 year olds. Together they bring musical styles from around the world into children’s everyday lives: from tidying the bedroom with a song about toys that tango to an a capella round about weather accompanied by a percussion of raindrops. Children can join Macamu and the band to make their own musical with instruments in the pre-show workshops, with which they can join in the songs, music and actions in the show.

The talented company consists of Hannah Rhodes (singer, pianist and composer for children), Lydia Glanville (drummer and percussionist), Katie Stevens (music teacher and folk musician), John Ruddock (musician, songwriter and music leader) and Emma Boor (puppeteer).

Hannah, who has toured internationally with the Royal Shakespeare Company and plays with Latin group Tri Habanero was inspired to create Macamu whilst living in South America. Impressed by the wealth of artists and bands writing for children in Uruguay she felt that Oxford needed to develop a similar children's music scene.

She and Emma Boor will also be returning in November to take part in a brand new stage production of Winnie The Witch coinciding with character’s 25th anniversary, as members of the Pegasus in-house performing company O Biscuits Collective as part of the venue’s 50th anniversary season.
