Pandas Return to the Jericho Tavern

Posted by Ocelot on 2010/9/7 15:05:55

Daisy Rodgers Music is very excited to bring you 3 brilliant new acts, two of them playing their first Oxford gig. Come see them at the Jericho Tavern, Oxford on Friday September 17. Doors @ 8pm. £5 on the door, and only £2.74 in advance, plus you get a free vote, to be explained later.

Dead Jerichos
Are they the best young Oxfordshire band around at the moment? Winning countless battle of the band competitions including Radio One DJ Bob Harris' personal selection for Truck. These trio bring their post pop punk to the Jericho Tavern. Not to be missed. Download track 'Red Dancefloor'.

Lunar Maria
They have only recorded one track. We listened. We loved it. Come see them play their debut gig and when they are massive tell your mates 'I was there'. We would describe this indie outfit as a Bowie inspired Death Cab for Cutie 5 piece - check out their (only) track 'A dream within a Dream'.

Felix & Fox
Singer songwriter Ruben takes time out from Minor Coles to hook up with Henrietta Fox to play their debut Oxford gig. Playing warm and beautiful acoustic folk in the style of Flaming Lips meets Bon Iver. Check out the rather ace track 'Circles'.

** FREE VOTE ** FREE VOTE ** FREE VOTE ** FREE VOTE **
Influence the set list: Buy an advance ticket and then vote for a cover version to be played at the gig. Each band has nominated a song they'd like to cover and all you need to do is pick your favourite once you've bought a cheap advance ticket.

Posted by Ocelot on 2010/9/6 15:21:12

The Tree, Iffley is hosting the first of six monthly jazz concerts, to be held on the 2nd Weds of each month

On Sept 8 2010 they will be hosting a tribute to Frank Sinatra, from 8pm to 10.30pm, featuring ATILA, one of the most popular and sought after jazz singers today.
Whether he was called "The Voice," "Ol' Blue Eyes," or "The Chairman of the Board," Frank Sinatra's nicknames all conveyed the adulation and respect reserved for a man who is commonly thought of as the best American popular singer of the 20th century. His voice, whether in song or spoken word, caressed the ears of millions of listeners for more than five decades. Sinatra's legacy - countless songs and more than 70 films - continue to ensure him the kind of popularity that has reached beyond the grave to elevate him past the status of mere icon to that of cultural institution.

Glasthalleigh Festival 2010

Posted by Ocelot on 2010/9/5 14:20:00

Now in it's second year, the Glasthalleigh Music Festival will take place in the village of Asthall Leigh, situated between Witney and Burford, this Saturday.
The final lineup is confirmed, with 20 live acts spanning a wider variety of genres, from jazz to punk, rock to opera, promising one of the most eclectic and exciting days of music in the Oxfordshire calendar. A day of great music, great food and family entertainment is in store, all in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere.
Topping the bill on the main stage is the energetic ska band The Inflatables, whilst returning to headline the acoustic stage are psycho-country Knights of Mentis.
Other acts include the Nirvana influenced Weatherwax, virtuoso bluesman Arthur Young with his band Evenlode Delta, African musician Jali FIli Cissokho, and American opera professional Tina B.
If that isn't a diverse enough selection for you, the tea tent will be filled with the sounds of trad jazz all afternoon courtesy of the Paragon Jazz Band, and the Warge Ensemble.
There's truly something for everyone, with amazing music and entertainment for kids, all in a beautiful setting. Apparently there's going to be a pig roast too, as if all that music wasn't enough!
